How do I filter survey results?
BOS allows you to set up and store filters for your survey data. These filters can be very simple, “Show me only the results for these four questions”, to the complex, “Show me results for respondents who answered 'green' to question 1, 'bike' to question 2 and used the word 'satisfactory' in question 5”.

Entering the filter section
- Go to the results section for your survey
- Select 'Filter Results'

Creating a simple filter
From the filter results page use the checkboxes to select the questions you'd like to appear in the results.

Once you've done this press 'Run filter' to filter your results based on the selection.
You will then return to the main 'Results' page but the data shown will only be from surveys matching your filter.
If you want to edit your filter select “Edit filter” from the options at the top of the page.
Creating a more complex filter
From the “Filter results” section you can set up complex filters for your results. For example...
Let's assume question 1 in your survey is "What is your favourite colour?" and question 2 "Favourite mode of transport" and you're only interested in respondents who answered 'Green' to question 1 and 'Bike' to question 2.
In the dropdown list select question 1:

Select the "Show responses / Enter text" button next to this question:

From the two resulting dropdown lists select "is" and "Green":

Now select question two from the dropdown list:

Select the "Show responses / Enter text" button next to this question:

From the two resulting dropdown lists select "is" and "Bike"

Now press "Run Filter":

The result set should now be filtered to only include responses that mach the filter you have set up.
Saving your filter
Once you've set up a filter you can save it for future use. To do this select "Save Filter" from the main Results page.
You will then be prompted for a name for the filter.

Once you've supplied a name, press Save and you will see confirmation that the filter has been saved:

Retrieving your filter
If you've saved a filter then you can load it again by selecting "Load Filter" from the main Results page.
You will be presented with a list of your previously saved filters:

Select the name of the filter you want and it will be applied to the current survey.
The above examples demonstrate some of the power of applying filters to your survey results. It is possible to create very complex filters in BOS and we hope the above provides you with enough knowledge to start creating your own.
