Embedding video within a survey
It is possible to embed a video within a survey. However, as is the case with images, the video cannot be hosted within BOS. However, you can use video hosted on an external service such as YouTube.
How to embed a video hosted on YouTube
(Please note, the BOS team cannot guarantee that the following instructions will work in all browsers)
Videos can be embedded within a survey using the 'Note' functionality.
- Navigate to the 'Edit Page X' screen.
- In between the survey's sections are buttons labelled 'Add Question', 'Add Section' and 'Add Note'. Select the 'Add Note' button that is directly above the question that you want to add video to. This will take you the 'Edit Note' screen.
- In the 'Edit Note' screen select the 'HTML' button in the editor. This will open a pop-up window containing an HTML code editor. Paste the HTML code for your embedded video into the code editor - for example:<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M_OqprX7148&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M_OqprX7148&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>This code can be copied from the YouTube page displaying the video you want to embed.
- Select 'Update' and then 'Save'.
- You will not see the video displayed in the editor but it will be visible in the survey Preview.
Please note, the BOS team cannot provide support on video hosting services. In addition, we cannot guarantee that the above instructions will work with all video hosting services nor continue to work if YouTube change their service.
If you do use video within your survey please make sure that you have obtained copyright clearance to use the video. As a BOS user it is your responsibility to ensure that you can use the video. Any queries from third parties regarding your use of a video clip will be passed on the the institution holding the BOS account.
BOS reserves the right to temporarily disable a survey or user account whilst any copyright infringement claim is investigated.
